Discovery Channel

Hey Everybody,

As many of you know, last year Dave from Sonlight Films and I filmed a spoof of the popular Discovery Channel show Man vs. Wild.  For those of you not familiar with the show, it’s a reality style show where Bear Gryll’s is placed into a harsh environment with no food and limited supplies, and is forced to survive using whatever he can find along the way.  He has been to some pretty nasty places and has eaten some pretty nasty things.

It was an absolute blast to film this, and I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.  We had some great stunt, that were only included in the long version, and unfortunately, a few bumps and bruises.  It’s pretty scary to fall down a hill with a couple thousand dollars in camera equipment.
Dave got cut up, and I got a messed up knee, but it’s been getting better over the last year or so.

All in all, it was a great experience, and almost everything was completely ad-lib.   None of it was scripted.  We just brought props and had fun, and the Discovery Channel loved it.  They said the location was amazing-hence Bear coming out and filming in some of the same spots-and they said the timing was great.  So they bought it.  It never aired, as You Spoof Discovery 2.0 was put on hold indefinitely.  I don’t know why.

If they run another contest, you can be sure that we’ll be putting out another episode.

For now, Enjoy.

The Vice President of Awesome,
Ryan M. Hall

Hey man, great video! Kinda random that I found this- I too was told my video would be aired by You Spoof Discovery 2.0, they bought the video from me and everything. So just on a whim this evening I figured I would try to check on the status of the show, I thought maybe it had aired without me knowing. I googled it and this page was in the results. (Great parody btw lol. You can check mine out here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6981106127464717785 )

So how did you find out the program was put on hold indefinitely? I was never notified! :-(

    Hey Adam!

I’m glad you liked the spoof. We had a blast shooting it. We have a 20 some odd minute version that I have to put online still. It’s pretty good because of some extended stuff and some fantastic stunts. I contacted an associate producer for the show and he said postponed indefinitely. They have the footage, and they cut it together and the voice over is done, but they shelved it. Sad. :( I am really happy because a few months after we shot our spoof, Bear Grylls actually came here and shot in the same location. So that made me happy. :)

By the way, I loved your spoof!
I really liked your analysis of Bears speech patterns. The words he says a lot and his accent. I also loved the car thing. Very funny. Good stuff.

Do you do other film or spoofs?

    Ryan
